JAMIE MCLENNAN RELEASES HEARTBREAKING SINGLE, ‘LITTLE GRAIN OF RICE’
Independent Melbourne based singer-songwriter, Jamie McLennan, released his latest single, Little Grain of Rice on the 16th of September and it’s the sweetest (and saddest) thing you’ll hear.
This song will carry you away into a sweet state of calm as the song screams major Ed Sheeran 2011 vibes with all of its honest and raw emotions.
‘Little of Grain of Rice’ was written from an extremely raw and heartbreaking moment when McLennan and his partner sadly experienced a miscarriage. This heartbreaking turn of events inspired this new single with the intention to bring greater awareness to the very real experience of going through the emotional waves that comes from having a miscarriage.
A major standout is its simplicity. McLennan should feel extremely proud for producing this stripped back acoustic track, as there’s no where to hide and no room for error. Everything is served on a platter for everyone to see, or in this case, hear, and that can be really difficult to pull off. However, McLennan managed to do that effortlessly. There’s a really humble feeling and soothing quality to Little Grain of Rice and this comes through the purity of the lyrics and the songwriter’s ability to weave his vocal melodic lines in with the melodic lines from the plucked acoustic guitar.
This is the sort of song one can imagine listening to on Spotify’s “Rainy Day” playlist; it makes you just want to cozy up in a comforting blanket and melt away into it. Elaborating from that, there’s a very prominent lullaby quality that comes from Little Grain of Rice, it’s quite relaxing and the softness that comes from McLennan’s hush tone vocals emphasises this greatly. Cue the applause for the talented singer-songwriter and his strength to write about something so personal and raw and commend him on his mission to promote awareness around suffering from a miscarriage.
