On the 10th of September, musician Isabella Munoz (know as Bella Rose) released her brand new alternative indie pop album, ‘Music From Midnight Emotions Vol.1’ and I have had the pleasure to enjoy every dreamy track on there.

Inspired by emotions felt from past and present experiences, the new album really does encapsulate that dreamy, dazed midnight feel, featuring delicate layering’s of vocals, harmonies and for the majority of the album, keyboard. Not going to lie, listening to this album made me want to curl up under a blanket and sleep, in the best way possible!

Music From Midnight Emotions Vol. 1’  comes just 6 months after Bella’s debut EP, ‘Polaroid Stories: Unity’  was released back in March this year. The new album features 10 tracks, each sharing similarities in terms of sound and vibe, there’s an obvious indie influence when it comes to Bella Roses’ music and I must say, the more I listened to it, the more I enjoyed it. The new album was written mostly at or around midnight and focuses on experiences that include the impacts that covid have had on Bella Rose, as well as experiences faced throughout her life.

“It's a very personal album that has Bella Rose’s signature sound, and thoughtful, dreamy lyrics, with piano and vocals being the forefront of every track.”- Bella Rose

I really want to just highlight that I think it’s a real treat when a fairly new artist releases music that isn’t full of frills and fluff. The whole album overall is quite simple in terms of its composition, each song mainly consisting of vocals, keyboard and a simple drum pulse. There’s nothing crazy going on, nothing mainstream and over processed or produced sounding, this includes the vocals. I think it’s brave to release 10 songs that seem to have little to no autotune used on the vocals, you can hear everything, even some of the sharp and flat notes that haven’t quite been hit perfectly.

In saying this, it was a nice change of pace when listening to ‘OLDER’ and ‘Tiptoe’, they have a totally different sound in comparison to the rest of the tracks, almost similar to sounds from produced from ‘Halsey’.  As I said, the whole album really does sound quite the same, so it was refreshing to have two tracks in particular that had something different going on in terms of musical ideas and feel. I think if Bella Rose ever gets to produce these songs professionally, it would take everything up to a whole new level, and I really don’t mean that in a bad way. I think it’s evident that the album is self produced and I believe with a bit more refining and mastering in the final production of each song, it would sound more polished and even better than what it does now.

I am curious and excited to see how Bella Rose can take her signature sound and amplify it in the future, there’s no denying the talent that this Melbourne based indie pop musician has, I just feel that there is still more to come in terms of really polishing the final overall sound.  ‘Music From Midnight Vol. 1’ is something I defiantly recommend listening to if ever you feel like curling up and getting lost in another world, it’s hard not to do, trust me.

Bella Rose’s brand new album “Music From Midnight Vol.1” is out now.
