TOMALIA RELEASES DEBUT SINGLE ‘COCA COLA’

Tomalia’s debut single ‘Coca Cola’ is a sassy, jazz infused R&B song that utilises clever lyrics and strong vocals to say a big “f*** you” to the male gaze.

‘Coca Cola’ is an extremely catchy track with groovy basslines and nostalgic lyrics that you would hear in an early 2000’s song. A foundation that is beautifully executed, the song is infused with jazzy elements that elevate the SASS within this track. Greatly executed by Tomalia, the inclusion of these smooth piano riffs and saxophones have added great flair to the track.

The excellent instrumental foundation has to at times take a back seat as Tomalia’s vocal performance is so commanding and powerful. At times this powerful message can get lost in the elements of the instrumentation and should be front facing with its important message. This cannot go without saying that the performance from Tomalia on this track is really well done. Exploring a lot of different ranges throughout the track you never question her ability throughout. Particularly throughout the various choruses, she demonstrates an ability to play around with the inflection in her voice in a way that a seasoned artist would.

“It is a fun song that talks about the less fun issue of the male gaze. Using a bit of 'don't touch me' and 'f*** you' attitude, Coca Cola tells a story and aims to discuss the important message of owning your body in a fun and sexy way,” - Tomalia

Lyrically, this song excels in having fun with a serious topic. Lyrics such as “I hope I rot your teeth like Coca Cola,” and “You seem to think I’m into you, please go get a life.” Lyrics that are perfect for the fun vocal performance on this track, yet at the same time are honest in addressing a very serious issue.

Her ability to play tongue and cheek with such a vulnerable and serious topic and execute it is a sign that many should be eagerly anticipating future releases from Tomalia as there is a lot of talent required in achieving such difficult tasks.
